Sheepwash Island

The rain continued to pour down right up to the end of 2012. The Torridge overflowed, and floodwater spread across the fields and roads. The lower half of the strip fields looked like an Olympic swimming pool for giants, with only the tops of the hedges showing above the water to mark out the “lanes”.

Villagers planning to go away for Christmas were worried they would not be able to get out of the village when South Street, East Street, and West Road were all blocked by floods a few days before Christmas.

Some residents even started referring to the village as Sheepwash Island! Christmas Carols

A week before Christmas, folk came along to the Village Hall to enjoy a lovely relaxed evening (on the super new chairs), singing traditional carols with the wonderful Northlew Silver Band.

A few Christmas stories were also read, and the evening finished with lots of festive fayre!

Donations of £60 were received for the ongoing work of Children's Hospice South West - thank you.

The evening was sponsored by the three village Churches. Helen Orr
