The friends a student makes here will be their friends for life, and are also likely to play a large part in their professional networks. When families are thinking about the future of their business, it would be a wise move to send the next generation of business leaders to Australia’s universities. And there are a number of different ways to do this; not only for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees, but also through student exchange and study abroad programs. In common with almost all Australian


universities, Macquarie provides programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in accounting, commerce and business studies. However, at the undergraduate level we do something quite distinctive in that we require all our students to take units which develop their social and cultural literacy as well as their understanding of science, aimed at encouraging them to become global citizens. At the postgraduate level, business education in this country is very sophisticated indeed with a wide range of courses, targeted to different professional needs. To again take a Macquarie example, our Master of Applied Finance is only taught by people who have been or are now finance practitioners. As a result, it has a strong international reputation and many of our graduates work in the financial centres of New York, London, Singapore and Shanghai. will have arrangements which allow students to come from an overseas university for one or two semesters to study as part of their overseas university degree. And there is also the option of coming to Australia as part of an exchange of students with partner universities.
