the George Inn in Longbridge Deverill. And Deverills festival 1976, a fascinating presentation of the first festival will be on display, showcasing the rich agricultural heritage of this vibrant valley.

Play in a day Do you want to act, stage-manage or work in a theatre making a play? You can spend a whole day working with Salisbury’s Playhouse Practitioners, using costumes, props and lighting, to create your own live show to be performed at the end of the day – so get your creative juices flowing! Workshop leader Sam Bunyan,

assisted by Craig Phelps and stage technician Sam Croft will give you a theme, and you can take it from there. All ages from 2 to 102 are welcome (maximum 25 participants). Bring comfortable clothing, sensible footwear, a packed lunch, and lots of energy and imagination.

Nick Sorensen Trio The musical partnership between alto saxophonist Nick Sorensen and pianist John Law began in 2006; in the words of Jazzwise magazine, “their practised sparring and relaxed candour in one another’s company shine through”. Nice! They will be joined at the festival

by bass-player Yuri Goloubev, who, after many years of a splendid classical career that included a Grammy-nominated album, has dedicated himself exclusively to what he considers his ‘true calling’: jazz music.

Carducci String Quartet Recognised as one of today’s most successful string quartets, Carducci are celebrated for their interpretations of a contemporary repertoire, and are regularly invited to premiere new works. Joining them will be Colin Parr, former principal clarinet at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra,

who has appeared as soloist on many occasions and also as guest principal with the LSO, LPO and Philharmonia.

Threepenny Bit This exciting eight-piece folk and ceilidh band from Hampshire plays a wide range of upbeat music from different traditions – mostly English and Irish, with contemporary, klezmer and European folk influences. The band also has a caller for the ceilidh, guaranteed to have you up on your feet and dancing the night away. This is just a sample of the wealth

of talent on offer at the Festival. It really will be a great opportunity to enjoy an intense long weekend of first-class arts activity in a delightful English village setting. FL
