Monroe portrait raises money for Toy Trust

Kurio hits top ten

A portrait of Marilyn Monroe has raised £2,050 for the Toy Trust charity after being unveiled at Toy Fair by star of BBC’s Bargain Hunt, Timothy Wonnacott. The 5ft by 5ft mosaic was created by Ed Chapman using purely materials from

the Galt art and craft range. The piece was revealed on Galt Toys’ stand by Tim Wonnacott, with the auctioneer then officially starting an online charity auction. Over 30 bids were made on the piece, which uses products from the Galt Art Jar, Fun Buttons, Cotton Reels and Mosaic Masterpieces kits, as well as a variety of paints, crayons, pens and craft kits from Galt, which plans to donate the full amount raised to the Toy Trust charity. The auction was won on Monday 27th January by Emma Messenger from

Messenger Enterprise, owner of several Toymaster stores. Emma said: “The Marilyn portrait is a fantastic piece of art, which I just fell in love with the moment I set eyes on it at Toy Fair. We are so excited to have won the auction and are very pleased to be giving to the Toy Trust. We now look forward to displaying the artwork around all our stores, to inspire as many people as possible.”

NPD’s 2013 decision to include tablet sales into their UK toy data has seen Kurio 7S shoot into the top ten toys for December. The tablet

reached

number nine in the month of December, as tablets topped children’s Christmas wish lists. The larger version of the Kurio tablet, the Kurio 10S, reached number 37 in the

chart. Some new apps joining existing e-books and educational games and apps, which are preloaded on the Kurio devices, with more available to buy in the Kurio App Store, include Henri Le Worm, Karizma Kids and Pacca’s Carousel. Henri Le World is the brain-child of Casualty actress Charlotte Salt, and takes a fun approach to healthy food, nature and cooking. Karizma Kidz, developed by Erika Brodnock, sees kids use an avatar of one of the colourful characters to navigate around the world of Moodville exploring the different emotions in zones such as Angry Alley, Love Lane, Proud Playground, Fear Farm and Loss Lagoon. Pacca’s Carousel, developed by Sarah Faisal Al Saud, allows children aged up

to five years old to learn one of five new languages – English, Arabic, French, Cantonese or Spanish – while creating their own carousel and playing games based on counting, reasoning and logic at each stage of development.
