Gema UK installs a highly innovative coating system into JCB Cab Systems

In every corner of

the world you’ll find a JCB machine.

JCB is one of the world’s top three manufacturers

of construction equipment.

They employ around 10,000 people on

4 continents and sell their products in

150 countries through 2,000 dealer

depot locations. Throughout their

67 year history, JCB have always invested

heavily in research and development, keeping JCB at the cutting

edge of innovation. Today, JCB has

some of the finest

engineering facilities across the globe,

producing a range of over 300 machines, maintaining a repu- tation for unrivalled customer service.

In a move to boost efficiency JCB Cab systems have invested in a cutting edge automated robotic powder coating system from Gema. The new powder coating system comprises of one of Gema Europe’s latest generation Magic Compact colour change booths which is designed to maximise efficiency from both production and powder utilisation aspects.

Leon Hogg, Head of Sales for Gema UK explained; “This project presented several challenges and encompassed the management of a multiplicity of stakeholders, drawing from several areas of expertise. With over 50 different cab designs, a multitude of product variations along with challenge of total automatic coating the product recognition system, and application package is the most comprehensive of its kind in the UK.”

He continued “Gema’s expertise resides with the design and manufacture of automated powder coating systems, however upon evaluating the overall requirements we were happy to take on the end-to-end project, something that delivered value for JCB, removing any project management aspects eliminating external project management costs.”

Project overview:

Familiarisation of the JCB Cabs coating challenges and requirements

Understanding of the existing processes and requirements.

A full evaluation of the product range, volumes and variation. Robot specification and selection
