done without the use of harsh chemicals. Consider an orbital scrubber to safely and effectively remove acrylic floor finishes. For example, the new Tennant orbital scrubber provides a chemical-free floor finish removal alternative for VCT floors. The orbital scrubber features a rectangular scrub head that easily reaches into corners and hard-to-reach areas for even floor fin- ish removal across the entire cleaning path. 2. Replace Daily-Use Conventional Cleaning Chemicals with a Multi-Sur- face Cleaner. Make it a goal to reduce the number of daily-use conventional clean- ing chemicals used across your facility. Orbio Technologies, a leading innovator in sustainable cleaning technologies recently launched Orbio® Multi-Surface Cleaner, the cleaning solution that is generated on-site by the Orbio 5000-Sc machine that combines softened tap water, salt and electricity. With the Orbio multi-surface cleaning

solution, you can reduce or

eliminate the need for many conventional daily-use cleaning chemicals in a variety of applications and thereby reduce the need for buying, transporting, storing, and disposing of many conventional daily-use cleaning chemicals and packaging. 3. Detergent-Free Floor Scrubbing.

Look for alternatives to floor scrubbing systems that require the use of detergent to clean effectively. For example, the on-site generated Orbio® Multi-Surface Cleaner

can also be used in floor scrubbing ma- chines effectively cleaning a variety of soils, including fats, proteins and organic oils. And because it leaves no chemical resi-

due, floors retain that polished look with simplified ongoing floor maintenance. “We use electrolyzed water in our floor

scrubbers. This saves time and makes it cost effective to clean 1 million square feet of floor without detergent,” said JP LaBerge, Director, Environmental Servic- es, Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte, N.C. “The floors look as clean as when using detergent. There’s no film, and the floors are in great shape.” 4. Implement an Advanced Floor Coating System.

There are countless

benefits to making an advanced floor coating system part of your cleaning pro- gram. Often, an advanced floor coating system reduces the need to chemically strip floors. Overhead lighting needs are also reduced because the floor finishes increase brightness and light reflectivity. Some floor coating systems cure instantly through exposure to UV light, eliminating the need to close off areas for long periods of time.

Creating, maintaining, or enhancing a solid sustainability program is not only possible, it’s necessary. We all have the ability to create better business tools and use what we learn to improve our own in- dustry and practices. n
