Bars boss is questioned on £6m VAT


ONLY bare walls are left where the magnificent Spread Eagle Art Collection once hung in


Greenwich. Paintings worth millions have gone from the Spread Eagle restaurant – whose parent company Greenwich Inc is in administration with debts of up to £9million.


Inc’s owner –


Amer ican entrepreneur Frank Dowling – and two colleagues have also been questioned over a suspected unpaid £6million VAT and PAYE. Administrators Griffins are trying to untangle the group’s finances and sell its businesses – most of which it says appear to be viable – and save jobs. One of their tasks will be to


work out who owns the multi-million Spread Eagle Art Collection. The 300-year-old restaurant in Nevada Street shut on December 12. Paintings were removed, and walls appear to have been repaired and repainted. The collection includes paintings by Thomas Gainsborough Turn to Page 9
