THE HORSE GAZETTE
TEXAS HORSE INDUSTRY’S INFORMATIONAL SOURCE SINCE 1996 By Linda Brown For the sixth year
the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will host the Gypsy Horse World Show January 31- February 2, 2014. Each year there is
record attendance at this event and new buyers are welcomed into the breed. Many of these buyers are first time horse owners. In times when some shows are watching falling attendance, the Gypsy Horses are a growing breed partly due to the striking looks and calm temperament of the horses,
but additionally because the registry and its members con- tinue to provide training and services for new owners, not just strictly catering to trainers. New classes have
been added this year to the Gypsy Horse World Show such as Novice Obstacle Line Driv- ing to encourage new drivers to work with their young horses and see rewards before the horses are actually old enough to pull a vehicle. Trail In Hand Class
allows owners of young hors-
es to work with their horses before they are ready to ride. This encouragement of new horse owners has led to a his- tory breaking first time ever, ALL classes in this show have been sponsored! This is a true sign of support. Additionally, there
are awards for Congeniali- ty, Public Presentation, and even a Bling award. The Gypsy Horses themselves are a huge draw with their looks, versatility, smarts and calmness, but offering new
owners a welcoming environ- ment has also gone a long way to increase the enticement of owning one of these incredible animals.

“Stuart” is a 14.1 hand 10year old all-around kind of a horse that comes from the hill country near Kerrville, Texas. He was used on a small working ranch, and is pretty handy for riding and checking fences, water, and livestock. He can be ridden by anyone, including Beginner and Novice riders. He has not been spooky in crowds, on the trails, in the pasture or in the pens. He has a laid-back manner, and rides with a loose rein. He rides with a one-handed neck rein, stop, and back-up. This horse is kind of lazy,(not a dead head) and needs a rider that is aggressive enough to make him go and perform. He does not have any bad habits, and is easy to catch, load, shoe, saddle, and mount. He has not been spooky or shy anywhere we have used him, and has never gotten fresh or frisky after being turned out. I believe he will be an asset to the right family, stable, guest ranch, or working ranch.
“TJ Black” is a beautiful 12 year old, 14.1 hand, 1,100 lb., black APHA registered gelding. This is an all- around kind of a horse that has been used for a little of everything, including some ranch work, trail riding, parades, etc. He does not get spooky or scared in crowds, in the working pens, on the trails, or in the pastures. He rides with a loose rein, and is not aggres- sive about trying to speed up on his own. He only goes as fast as you ask him, and stops, and stands when you ask him. He has a good one hand neck rein, stop, and back-up. He does not have any bad habits, and is easy to catch, load, shoe, saddle, and mount. I believe the Beginner and Novice riders will get along very well with this guy, and the Intermediate and Experienced riders will definitely appreciate and enjoy his training.

“Viejo” is a 15 year old 15 hand gentle ranch gelding. He rides and handles good and is as gentle as they come. Anyone from Beginners to Experienced riders can enjoy and appreciate this guy. He has had his teeth floated, been wormed, shod, and has a current Coggins. He has not gotten fresh or frisky, nor been spooky. He is comfortable riding in the pasture, on the trails, or going down the side of the road. He is very well behaved, and has not shown me any bad habits.
