Report to AWCC on HS2

Although HS2 will not directly affect D.M.B.C. on the current proposed alignment, the report below shows how other clubs and mooring sites will be affected. There are some roadshows to promote the scheme and indeed there has been one locally. The roadshows are a powerful promotion tool, whether you agree or not with the scheme it is worth a look. I have a timetable for these shows, just contact me for a copy, IWA is leading the campaign with collaboration from AWCC and other Waterway Organisations. Des Barnard who authored this report has spent a great deal of time and effort so far trying to get to grips with how Boat Clubs and mooring sited will be affected. The Report reproduced with the cooperation and permission of Des. Ed.

Initial report dated 13/8/13

The latest meeting of the IWA Committee looking at the effects of HS2 was held last Thursday, 8th August 2013, so here is the current state of play.

As a member on this committee with an interest in the affect of HS2 on our moorings, Vaughan Welsh (IWA) has tasked me with liasing with all clubs, marinas and moorings affected by both phase 1 and phase 2 of the HS2 scheme. I identified the following sites that will be affected:-

Phase 1 Harefield Marina (Grand Union) Lichfield Cruising Club

Kings Orchard Marina (new marina, just opened, on Coventry between Huddlesford and Streethay) Streethay Wharf Moorings above Wood End Lock Phase 2, Manchester line Great Heywood Marina (T&M)

Lymm Cruising Club (Bridgewater, AWCC member) – HS2 passes right over their moorings
