MARCUS ELLIS is back in Glasgow this week as the only returning winner from last year’s Scottish Open. The England doubles star won the mixed

doubles title with GabbyWhite last November here in the Emirates Arena in their last match together before she teamed up with long- standing boyfriend Chris Adcock, who she married in September. That left Ellis to focus on men’s doubles with

Scotland’s Paul Van Rietvelde and they are in action this week, bidding to capture the title Ellis won with PeterMills in 2010 and finished runners-up with him in 2011. Last year Ellis andWhite stopped an Asian

takeaway of the titles after Japan won the men’s and women’s doubles and the women’s singles and also provided seven of the 10 finalists. The men’s singles eluded them when India’s Anand Pawar came from behind to defeat

England star on

the title trail with Van Rietvelde

Kazumasa Sakai in three games to recapture the title he won in 2010, having been runner-up to Rajiv Ouseph in 2008. Sadly Ellis is the only one of last year’s

champions who has decided to return this year. He and Longniddry’s Van Rietvelde will be up

against the Englishman’s former partnerMills in the men’s doubles as they look to add a Scottish title to their Forza Denmark International triumph inMay Mills partners Chris Langridge while Poland’s 2005 men’s singles winner PrzemyslawWacha

and Adam Cwalina will be in contention along with 2009 championsMads Conrad-Petersen andMads Pieler-Kolding of Denmark.
