ver the past few years, the Blanchardville community has rallied to address the consequences of a tragic 2009 fire that killed four and destroyed a historic downtown hotel. This June, with support from the Blanchardville/Hollandale Area Fund, Ryan


Hotel Park was dedicated. The park commemorates the history of the hotel, built in 1904, while adding beauty and function to a historic and visible corner of the downtown.


Monticello Advisory Board Leads School Supply Drive


n addition to making grants to the Monticello schools, the volunteer advisory board members of the Monticello Excellence in Education Fund lead an annual


school supply drive for Monticello schoolchildren. In Fall 2012, the highly successful drive was done in partnership with Gempeler’s Supermarket. Packing backpacks at right are Carol Strause, Amy Waddell, Linda Gebhardt of the Community Foundation, Don Roe, Lois Hopkins and Melody Flesher.

Nonprofit organizations are always welcome to apply for grants from any of the Community Foundation funds for which they may be eligible. Grant application deadlines vary. Start at the home page of the Community Foundation’s website, www.cfsw.org. Under the Grants tab find your county. Each county page has a list of funds that use a competitive grant selection process. The Open Grant Applications page, also in this section, will tell you what’s in season and link you to qualification information and the application form.


For information about scholarships that you may be eligible for, click on the Scholarships tab and choose from the drop-down menu. You will be taken to a menu of scholarship opportunities with instructions on how to apply.
