HOT NEW SPONSOR FOR FOOTBALL TEAM


JUNIOR football side Bollington United has signed a sponsorship deal with the Cheshire town’s local curry restaurant, The Viceroy. The under-nines team picked their favourite curries to have on their shirts and so popular dishes such as Tikka, Jalfrezie, Bhuna and Kurma feature on the back of the boys shirts, along with their names, while the Viceroy’s logo is prominently displayed on the front. ”We were looking for a sponsor so we could buy the new kits,” says team manager John Baistow. “To say thank you to the Viceroy, we tried to think of something that would really catch the eye.” n


TAX CRACKDOWN IN NORTH EAST


A TASKFORCE whose remit is to tackle tax dodgers in the restaurant trade in Yorkshire and Humber has been launched by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). The

aim is to recover £3.8 million in taxes due to the Treasury which are being improperly avoided. Taskforces are specialist teams that undertake intensive


bursts of activity in specific high-risk trade sectors and locations in the UK. The teams visit traders to examine their records and carry out other investigations. n


Tasty Test


A NOTTINGHAM restaurant has reported selling more than 300 curries a day during the recent Ashes Test match at Trent Bridge. Normally the Bombay


Bridgford in Radcliffe Road close to the ground would sell around 50 curries in a day. However Ashes fever meant that business boomed as spectators took the opportunity to enjoy a lunchtime curry. n
