Exercise and longevity go hand- in-hand

Ellie Schuck, ACE Certifi ed Instructor Longevity is often linked to one’s

genetics. However, studies indicate that physical activity may have more to do with it

than previously thought. These studies

fi nd that the choices we make on a daily basis affect our health. And one of the best choices is to be active for 30 minutes every day. Clearly, a little exercise can go a long way toward improving one’s odds of enjoying a long healthy life. I invite all Sun Lakers to join the Oakwood

or Cottonwood classes. The Oakwood classes are held in the Kingston Ballroom on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30- 8:30 a.m. The Cottonwood Country Club classes are held in the San Tan Ballroom on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00- 10:00 a.m. You’ll get a good workout and meet some happy people. Healing grief with Reiki is

universal life force. It is ever present and available in this universe. It is the force fl owing through all life and it may be called upon at any time for balance and healing. Another is that it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.

healing of all those willing to experience it. I personally believe that Reiki has the power to instill peace within everyone and that those with inner peace will lead the way to world peace. All these defi nitions are true. I’ve been a Reiki practitioner for 20 years;

one of my practices being to give myself Reiki daily. There on August 1 of this year, I was thrust directly into shock and grief. My 28 year old grandson died suddenly. He’d been sick for four and a half years, but he was getting better. He’d spent weeks and even months in the hospital, but how could he die from something the doctors could never fully diagnose? He had an entire life yet to live. I don’t want to be here; I don’t know how to do this thing called grief. I was in such a state of shock that I totally

forgot to give myself Reiki or to even ask for Reiki until a couple of weeks ago. When I did receive Reiki, something heavy seemed to lift from me and an energy I’ll call love fi lled me. For a while, I felt at peace. I again began to give myself Reiki. As best I can, I’m also meditating. I have been asking for Reiki and gratefully receiving it. I do know that grief and loss are a part

of living and that one day is very different from the next. I’ve also heard that everyone grieves differently and for varying lengths of time. There is no one way to do this. Some have to speak about it frequently and some cannot speak about it at all. Can we be brave enough to ask for what we want? Family and friends want to help but often don’t know how. So, through the anger, guilt and tears, I’m reaching out to everything that feels supportive to me, beginning with Reiki. If you would like to attend our Reiki

Circle any Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. in Room A-2 of the Cottonwood Courtyard, you are more than welcome. You needn’t be in grief to attend; but if you are, you may fi nd some comfort. If you have any questions call Lois Valleau at 480-883-6699. Love offering. 
