Amazing Adieus

Photos by Brooke Mayo Photography Story by Lindsey Beasley Dianna

Airborne luminaries, streamer wands waving wildly and all manners

of pyrotechnics that make the 4th of July displays look miniscule by comparison—it is a dangerous business, planning a creative send-off for a wedding.

We’re all familiar with the concept of a fashionable Grand Entrance, but in these modern days, brides are placing just as much emphasis on making Grand Exits as unique and fabulous as possible.

Gone are the days of showering the happy couple with fistfuls of rice—guests instead toss flower petals and confetti, launch paper airplanes, and blow bubbles to bid the happy couple a fond farewell. Audiences are often encouraged to participate in forming human arches of umbrellas or blazing sparklers. For evening weddings, the use of neon balloons, floating luminaries and sparklers of all colors present some spectacular photo ops demonstrated by Brooke Mayo Photography.

Those looking to include flair in the form of wildlife might release doves or butterflies at the close of the ceremony, or base centerpieces for the reception around live fish and even turtles. Some happy couples take the reigns in more ways than one and gallop away on majestic horses. A word of warning to the DIY folks: you’ll need to consult a wedding professional for humane purposes.

For motorized exits, try His and Hers scooters. Running the gamut from large passenger yachts to kayaks for two, boats can make for a picturesque parting. And what about public transportation like a trolley or water taxi?

If one is interested in the mode of transportation in which brides and grooms ride off into the sunset, the options are endless. Couples can drive away in vintage cars, or pedal off into the sunset on golf carts toting the classic “Just Married” sign. Bicycles are also making appearances—some even ride out on handlebars, trusting their new spouse to whisk them away towards their new and exciting future.

There are endless ways to create meaningful departures and visually stunning photos that suit all personalities and styles—so go ahead and express yourselves!
