ADVERTISING FE A TURES Learn to swim in Churchill

There is nothing quite like the look on a child’s face when they put their face in water, blow bubbles and realise that learning to swim is fun. Churchill Sports Centre offer swimming lessons for children from Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings, as well as adult lessons, private lessons, intensive lessons, Aqua Babies and Swim Clubs. Swimming is more than just enjoyable exercise, it is an essential life skill giving children a sense of achievement and new opportunities.

The greatest benefit of hav- ing confidence in water is of course safety with the ability to survive in potentially life threatening situations. It also enables children to join in excit- ing water sports like synchro- nised swimming, water polo, speed swimming and diving.

Our teachers follow the Na-

tional Plan for Teaching Swimming that ensures that achievement level standards are recog- nised nationally. Swimming is a wonderful way to help broaden your child’s life choices so why not check out our Swimskool Scheme for more details and enrol your child today. Whatever your age, it’s never too late or too early to learn to swim!

Healthy feet with Diane Dennis

Taking care of Working Feet. No one can be 100% productive with feet that hurt. Feet were designed for standing, but not all day or on hard unforgiving surfaces. Standing can be hard work and your feet can tire quickly. In addition, the constant pounding of walking can take its toll. So here are some tips for healthy working feet:

1 Wear footwear appropriate to your work conditions. 2 Wear footwear that fits properly, paying attention to toe room. 3 Shoes with laces or strap over the instep will stop the foot sliding forward and damaging the toes. 4 If standing or walking on hard surfaces, ensure footwear has cushioned soles especially under the ball of the foot and heel. 5 Always have two pairs of shoes on the go, alternating daily so they have time to dry out and prevent athlete’s foot. 6 Women should vary heel height each

day. Heels should be no more than 4cm for every day wear, or 2cm if you are on your feet constantly. 7 If standing all day, try to flex the foot up and down and rotate the foot to encourage circulation. 8 Once home elevate the feet and legs above the head and heart for 10-15 minutes. 9 Walk bare-footed at home to exercise the feet. 10 Keep to a regularly foot care regime.

smokey and spicy; or rich and organic?

September wines:

Now September is upon us, we wanted to capture the last of the summer sunshine and so have chosen the indigenous grape variety Nero d’Avola from Sicily.

Ca’di Ponti Nero d’Avola. This wine has soft tannins and lots of juicy ripe fruits, red and black cherries, with a hint of smokiness and spice. A tasty wine that is perfect for easy drinking with friends. £6.99.

I’m very much aware that people are conscious about what goes in their bodies and this is why we offer organic and low sulphur wines.

Feudo Santa Tresa Insieme. Organic wine with no added sulphur. ‘Insieme’ meaning together, Soft rounded juicy damson and bramble fruits, rich in flavour and a lingering finish, with no added sulphur this wine shows purity. £10.99.
