June 2013 NEWSLETTER
HELPING THE CITY AND REGION THROUGH THE TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE
I am delighted to introduce the first edition of the RED Newsletter. The ‘RED’ title refers to the Research, Enterprise and Development
activities of Development Office of LIT.
“Our mission in the development function of LIT is to actively engage with organisations who need our support and with those who care about LIT, our community, the city and region where we reside and to provide these organisations with opportunities to enhance our active learning, teaching, research, enterprise and engagement programmes.”
I hope that the Newsletter may stimulate new and innovative ideas about how we might add even further to our contribution to the development of the region served by the Institute. We employ the core expertise of LIT, our teaching staff, the LIT brand and the physical resources of the Institute to build and deepen relationships with external
engagement and partnership approach helps LIT undergraduate schools and departments provide a leading educational experience for our learners.
Our collaborative approach can be seen in the Institutional co-operation that already exists between LIT and partner colleges. It can also be seen in the joint actions of Limerick City and County Councils, the Higher Education organisations in the area including LIT and other development organisations to promote an integrated approach to investment in the city’s future. Collaboration also lies at the heart of LIT’s
enterprise development activity and its unique Enterprise Ladder, through which our Enterprise Development and Business Liaison Manager Gillian Barry works closely with Enterprise Ireland, the IDA, City and County Enterprise Boards, the Chambers of Commerce and our own Academic business specialists to facilitate the establishment and development of enterprises within the region.
Our research activity which is managed by our Head of Research and Technology Transfer Dr. Siobhan Moane and our development projects which are managed by Ciaran Lynch our Development Manager, generate substantial investment from abroad and involve many international and Irish partners as well as close co- operation with the Academic staff of LIT. Finally, the LIT Thought Leadership Group and Friends of LIT are manged by Mr. Kieran MacSweeney.Th
is group assists our team in developing a long term, strategic and objective view and in developing relationships and networks to assist in fundraising and income diversification so that LIT can play a key role in revitalising Limerick and the region.
Some examples of the near 400 projects through which we have facilitated companies and organisations to deliver their strategy are showcased in this newsletter which I hope you will enjoy.
