reframe 2. Prioritise

Everything on your list will have varying degrees of importance. Many businesses use ABC analysis which basically involves categorising tasks based on urgency or importance.

A – Tasks that are perceived as being urgent and important

B – Tasks that are

important but not urgent C – Tasks that are neither

urgent nor important The idea is that tasks

marked ‘A’ often need more attention, are of greater importance and should be completed first.

3. Set realistic goals

There is no point waking up in the morning and making a list of 20 things you need to get done that day. Instead of saying to yourself ‘what do I want to do today?’ ask yourself ‘what do I want to achieve?’ If you set realistic targets you’re more likely to achieve them. If you don’t set realistic targets you’re likely to get nothing done resulting in even more things on your list!

4. Get moving

Often the hardest part is getting going. When faced with a large time consuming or challenging task the most important thing is to not put it off further. Say to yourself, ‘Ok I know I don’t like this but it’s got to be done. I’ll just do it ten minutes’. After the initial ten minutes you’ll see that it’s not that bad, as usually starting the task is the hardest part.

5. Reward yourself

If you feel you’ve had a productive day or if you’ve ticked off that task that’s been bugging you for months treat yourself. Now we’re not talking book a two-week holiday in the Caribbean! A chocolate bar or an evening off watching your favourite film should do the trick.
