NMC News LondonMarathon 2013
Established as one of the most prestigious and popular sporting events in the world, the Virgin LondonMarathon on 21st April this year attracted 34,278 participants. Amongst the thousands were 7 brave runners who took on the most arduous of road running challenges in aid of the NMC, accompanied by their families and friends who travelled to London to support them.
Robin Lemon, Ewan Henesy, Ben Hulme, Christian De Goede, Claire Harvey, BenWalker and ShaunMcWilliams all completed the marathon in impressive times, and have collectively raised over £9,000 for NMC! We would like to thank all our runners for their incredible dedication both to training and fundraising.
Robin, Ewan and Ben all ran in support of Robin’s sisterMichelle Lemon, an NMC service user. This is their second marathon in 6 months, and they now want to take on the New York marathon to raise even more money to support NMC!
Dr Christian De Goede is the Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Royal Preston Hospital and huge supporter of the work we do. He says of the experience: “It
was my pleasure to run, and to be able to contribute to the NMC. You do a marvellous job, and I am very pleased for our families that they can tap into you for physio, support and training. Thank you for supporting me and carrying me through to the end of the marathon.”
Shaun ran in support of his aunt LorraineWoolley, who attends NMC for regular physiotherapy. Shaun’s run didn’t exactly go to plan, as he unfortunately sustained an injury with 9 miles still to go. He refused to give up despite being advised to stop by paramedics, and managed to walk to the finish line. He describes the experience as the hardest but best day of his life and we at the Centre were extremely touched by his dedication. Shaun has raised over £3,000 in sponsorship which is an incredible achievement and we’re extremely grateful to Shaun and all who have supported him.
Next year’s LondonMarathon is on 20th April 2014 and we have 4 places remaining. These are extremely sought after, so we recommend contacting us as soon as possible if you would like to run in aid of NMC.
