● ROCHDALE-born artist Corrina Rothwell now lives in Nottingham having changed from her original textile work to a printed, distinctive graphic style with off-beat humour. “The stitched work I did was in effect drawing with a sewing machine,” said Corrina, With designs which include pigeons and buildings from Nottingham, along with word play, Corrina adores coming up with images that make her laugh when she’s creating them.

● FOUNDED in 2007, Ryland Studios are family-run publishers of design-led contemporary greetings cards with traditional values. Based in the small village of Fulbeck in Lincolnshire, their mission is to provide quality in both design and fi nished product – all produced in the UK. Fairy Greetings Recipes is their best-selling card range and recipe book is being launched at Harrogate Home & Gift.

● FOX & Lark is a little design studio based in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, the creative haven of designer Liona Baldwin is tucked away by a forgotten walled garden. Liona produces stylised patterns that retain the haphazard charm of the hand-drawn and layer beautiful motifs with bold and eccentric British style, and fresh and bright choice of colours. Launching at Spring Fair they received a hugely positive reception.

● FROM a lovingly-restored Victorian building in Leicester’s historic conservation area, Dyson Design Cards publishes upmarket greetings cards, stationery and gifts 100 per cent designed photographed and printed in Britain, which can be found all over the world. Dyson’s new range of handmade note cards – based on the bestselling Fabulous Flowers range – has proved an instant hit.

● ROSANNA Rossi is a creative mother and daughter team who are passionate about designs and illustration. Filippa is a watercolour artist and illustrator and Anna is a textile and surface pattern designer so together they create contemporary greeting cards fused with a sophisticated mix of vibrant painted illustration, pattern and striking colour. Anna said: “It’s easy to be inspired with our surroundings in the beautiful Cotswolds which is bursting with nature and rural scenery.”


● AT LAURA Sherratt Designs they have a passion for beautiful, unique handmade products and have expanded since the beginning in her parents’ conservatory. From their brand-new countryside Barn Studio, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, the card range has now also expanded with a vast variety of designs available for all occasions. Many cards are produced in their studio but they have also started to use a team of local ladies and gents to embellish the cards from home.

● BIRD has a new Coming Up Cats range, launched at Pulse last month available as square and 7x5. They complement the very popular range Man’s Best Friend. Based in rural South Shropshire, artist Bird paints and draws among the hills. Quality is paramount with every card as beautiful to hold as it is to view. Supporting other local business is important with 95 per cent of the range printed just eight miles from the studio. A new website will be launched in a few days with a dedicated trade login.

● WORKING from the kitchen table is a great way for stay-at-home mum of two Jo Brierley to keep an eye on her business and family. The Writing Bureau is her small family-run company which she runs from home at an outdoor education centre in rural Lincolnshire after moving with her husband’s work. Jo said: “Being surrounded by so much fun and laughter is having a massive impact on my new artwork. It means I’m never short of inspiration.”

● BOUTIQUE publisher Sabivo Design are based in Leicester producing truly British greetings cards and wedding stationery all designed, printed and hand-fi nished in their studio. Run by Sabina and Ivo Kovacheva, she digitally drawing the outlines then individually hand fi nishes every card in watercolours and with embellishments, while he runs all the business side.

● ALICE Palace are a small independent eco-friendly family- run business creating unique, quirky, design-led products illustrated and published in England. Founder Alice Boston and her sister Liz McMaster now work in a small studio in Evesham, Worcestershire, along with dogs Jemima and Honey. Dedicated, with customer service a top priority, they are proud to be different.
