Christian Aid Week

The total collected during Christian Aid Week (CAW) in Meldreth was a tremendous £1145.67. Considering the current economic squeeze we are all experiencing in this country this is fantastic result, so well done Meldreth! The village and its visitors has once again made a fantastic contribution towards helping to improve the lives of many poor communities around the globe - altogether more than 50 countries where Christian Aid and its partners operate. You put a truly wonderful £1145.67 in the Christian Aid envelopes, the church collection and collecting tins deposited in The British Queen and Fieldgate Nurseries. Whilst this figure is the lowest for seven years, it still makes organising the house-to-house collection and collecting the envelopes such a worthwhile thing to do. Christian Aid and its partners in this year’s featured countries of Bolivia, Zimbabwe and Kenya are truly grateful for the effort that goes into making CAW such a success. You also "Gift-Aided" £424.50 which attracts a further 25% dependent upon which tax band an individual is in. Gift Aid is such a valuable bonus to any charity.

My thanks, as always, go to the big band of collectors and money counters who take time out of their busy lives to support this extremely worthy cause. Thank you very much Theresa, Sarah and John, Tim, Tony and Sheila, Cathy, Steve and Eira, Robert, Ruth, Richard and Jane, Daphne, Jill, Ann, Marion, Libby, Peter, Christine, Hilary, Lesley and Karen. Sincere thanks also go to The British Queen and Fieldgate Nurseries for displaying collecting tins. Without this large team we would not be able to reach all the homes in Meldreth.

Christian Aid's work continues 24/7 around the globe and without funds raised during Christian Aid Week it would be unable to help as many communities as it does. Communities are helped irrespective of race and creed: communities which are in need because of poverty.

As I have mentioned for nearly a year now, I am standing down as the organiser of Christian Aid Week in Meldreth but will remain as a supporter of Christian Aid. I would really love to hear from someone else interested in taking over the reins and would gladly support that person next year and beyond.
