Award-winning mental health support Our Mental Health Education and Employment team works in tandem with students and professionals. Together, we break down the barriers that can be faced by people who access mental health services, to help them succeed in education and progress to work. Our innovative approaches and success have been recognised with a Queen’s Anniversary Prize, an Association of Colleges Beacon Award and an Adult Learners’ Week London Project Award.

Diversity Hackney Community College is proud to celebrate diversity and equality in all that we do. We respect differences in race, ethnic culture, gender, disability, sexuality, age, religion / belief and social class. We offer support for everyone – no matter what their needs are.

Student Advisers All students can receive free, confidential and impartial advice on things like: finance, housing, health, immigration, benefit claims, legal problems, sexual health, drugs, staying safe, personal / emotional concerns and other issues.

Key Skills On most courses you will work towards at least one key skill – usually English, maths or IT. You will develop these skills through teaching which is related to your main subject. You will also be encouraged to develop information, literacy and research skills.

Feedback and tutorials For qualification courses, you will have a named course/ pastoral tutor and have regular tutorial sessions. Some will be as a class and others will be on a one-to-one basis. You’ll receive regular feedback regarding your progress, attendance and punctuality. Your tutor will help you to develop your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) where you set yourself targets which help you to achieve your goal of successfully completing your course and progressing to your next step.

Internet Station PCs in this area can be used for activities such as browsing, games or shopping.

Student Activities Groups of students, or staff and students, can bid for funds to subsidise activities. We have a dedicated enrichment team who will organise a range of activities e.g. healthy and cultural events, trips (Alton Towers, day trips to France), Student Conference and much more.

Student Leadership There are plenty of opportunities for you to become involved in the College. We have a Student Association elected by students to lead on activities and events which improve the College experience. You can also become involved as a Class Leader and represent the views and interests of your fellow classmates.

All courses are subject to change and may be cancelled without prior notice as a result of funding changes or low demand.
