Sports Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport


(SPS10021) This course provides a background and range of skills and knowledge required for employment in the sport and recreation industries. You will study core units in Fitness Testing and Training, Practical Sport, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities. In addition you will study a further 4 optional units. Entry requirements: BTEC Introductory Diploma (merit), or 4 GCSEs grades D-G (including English), plus a satisfactory reference. Possible next steps: BTEC Diploma in Sport (level 3) or employment in sport and recreation. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 13.5


Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in


Sport (SPS10038) The BTEC Diplomas in Sport are designed to equip people with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for progression into employment or further educational opportunities. The Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is an integral part of the education of young elite athletes in the UK, being part of the technical certifi cate requirement on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence. To achieve the full extended diploma (over a two year period) you will study 9 core units: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Nutrition, Psychology for Sports Performance, Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport, The Athlete’s Lifestyle. Additionally, you will study 6 specialist units: Sports Coaching, Current Issues in Sport, Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise, Sports Development, Practical Team Sports and Organising Sports Events. Entry requirements: BTEC First Diploma (merit) or 4 GCSEs at grades A-C (one of which should be English). Possible next steps: University, undergraduate courses, Foundation Degree courses, or into employment in sport and recreation.

Higher National Certifi cate / Diploma


(HNC/D) in Sport (SPS32298) This exciting Higher Education course is “hands on” and offers training that is based on the needs of employers and professional bodies. The HNC / HND has been developed to focus on providing education and training for a range of careers in Active Leisure. It provides opportunities for you to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specifi c qualifi cation to enter into employment or to progress to higher level qualifi cations. This course is also ideal for people who are already employed, or aspire to be employed in a variety of types of work, such as performance analysis, nutrition for sport and exercise, sports development, sports coaching, education, research and development. Entry requirements: A Sport and Recreation qualifi cation at Level 3 and a wish to progress to a higher level and gain a recognised qualifi cation for employment. People already working within the sector will also be considered. Possible next steps: Progression to employment and / or postgraduate courses. Length of course (weeks): 72 Hours per week: 15
