English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)


ESOL General Education Levels: Entry


1 - Level 2 This one year, full-time course is for people at all levels, from complete beginners to level 2. The courses combine ESOL with maths and IT skills. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. Possible next steps: Students who complete Entry 3 can progress on to vocational courses or our Pathway to BTEC, GCSEs with Science, English and Maths. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 15.5


ESOL: Entry Level 1 - Level 2 This is a one-hour per week course for adults from complete beginner to level 2. You will practise reading writing, speaking and listening and have the chance to do maths if you want to. If you are ready, you will take ESOL Skills for Life exams at the end of the year. At Entry 3 and above, these exams are recognised towards obtaining UK citizenship. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. ESOL Literacy: Entry Level 1 to Entry


Level 2 with Maths These courses are for adults who speak English as an additional language and have English literacy skills at a beginner level – or who are not yet confi dent with reading and writing. All your skills will be developed (speaking, listening, reading and writing), but there is more focus on basic reading and writing, and Maths including money, time and calculations. You will take a Skills for Life exam and Mathematics qualifi cations. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. Possible next steps: Higher level vocational or ESOL/ literacy courses at the College. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 10


ESOL Maths: Entry Level 1 to Level 2 As an addition to your main course you can improve your skills in maths covering subjects such as measurement, calculation of numbers, money and time and interpretation of data, as an additional component of your ESOL course. You will increase your confi dence and be prepared to meet the maths requirements of other College courses. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. Possible next steps: Higher level vocational or ESOL/ literacy courses at the College. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 2


We also offer ESOL support with lots of other subjects.


All courses are subject to change and may be cancelled without prior notice as a result of funding changes or low demand. You may be eligible for a discounted tuition fee or a loan on some courses, but you will need to check with us. Students who pay a tuition fee may also pay an exam, DBS Check and materials fee if applicable.
