Counselling Certificate in Introduction to


Counselling Skills: Level 2 (CDV62101) If you’re interested in counselling, this 10-week course is the best place to start. You’ll develop a basic understanding of how to use counselling skills to help others and learn about your own and others’ emotional needs. Counselling skills can be of benefit personally and are transferable to a wide range of voluntary and paid jobs in the health, education, social care, justice and other sectors. Entry requirements: You must be at least 21 years old. There is a short written application which we use as the basis for selection. Possible next steps: Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.


Length of course (weeks): 10 Hours per week: 3


Certificate in Counselling Skills: Level 2 (CAR64260)


On this 90-hour course, you learn about effective listening and you deepen your understanding of the emotional needs of yourself and others. You can study this for: (a) 3 hours a week for 1 year (September to June) or (b) 1 day a week for one and a half terms (September to- February).


If you’re looking to progress straight to the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, option (b) is the best as the level 3 course starts in February. Entry requirements: You must be at least 21 and complete a course-specific written application. Possible next steps: Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies and/or employment as a skilled helper. Length of course (weeks): 15 or 30 Hours per week: 3 or 7


Certificate in Counselling Studies:


Level 3 (CAR60270) This 90-hour qualification enables you to take the next step towards becoming a counsellor (having already acquired level 2 counselling skills). You learn about yourself, counselling theory, and the therapeutic relationship. You can study for:


(a) 3 hours a week for one year (Sep – Jun) or (b) 1 day a week for one and a half terms (Feb-Jun). Because the level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills runs from September to January, the February start date allows for immediate progression to the level 3, (if you are successful in gaining a place). Entry requirements: You must be at least 21 years old and complete a course-specific written application at HCC. Possible next steps: Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and/or employment as a skilled helper. Length of course (weeks): 15 or 30 Hours per week: 3 or 7


Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling


(Level 5) On this degree level BTEC course, you’ll consolidate and extend your learning about yourself, the Person- Centred therapeutic framework, and other comparative perspectives. Units also include Loss and Grief and Working with Young People. You complete a minimum of 100 supervised client hours in the workplace/ on placement, in accord with BACP accreditation requirements. The course takes place one day per week for two years. Entry requirements: You must be at least 21 and already have a level 3 counselling qualification (or equivalent). There is a written assessment, and interview. Possible next steps: (a) Employment as a counsellor (b) Further study and/or specialist training in working with specific client groups. Length of course (weeks): 72 Hours per week: 7
