(INT30114) The Extended Diploma is a two-year level 3 course which prepares you for further academic study or entering employment as a small business computer systems developer. Assignments are industry linked. Included as an additional unit is the CISCO Academy CCNA part one level 3. Units include: Communication and employability skills for IT, computer systems, information systems, impact of the use of IT on business systems, procedural programming, maintaining computer systems, installing and upgrading software, digital graphics, spreadsheet modelling, software design and development, organisational systems security, e-commerce, computer networks, systems analysis and design, project planning with IT, database design, human computer interaction and website production. You will also undertake a substantial amount of laboratory practical work which requires writing as part of your course assessment. Depending on your interest and performance in the fi rst year, you will join either the software development pathway or the IT and business pathway for the second year. By the end of the fi rst year you will be expected to have completed three core units and 15 optional units. Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade C or Level 2 BTEC. Possible next steps: Higher Education (such as the HNC/ HND course we offer) or Employment. Length of course (weeks): 72 Hours per week: 16


Higher National Certifi cate/Diploma (HNC/D) in Computing and Systems


Development (INT64304) On this Higher Education course, you will learn a broad range of areas of computing. Units covered include: business skills for e-commerce, computer systems, employability and professional development, project design, implementation and evaluation, system analysis and design, data design concepts, networking for home and small business, human computer interaction, website design and management, e-commerce strategy, information systems, digital images, data structures and algorithms, quality systems in IT and spreadsheet modelling. Entry requirements: 2 A Levels or computing qualifi cation at Level 3 and/or appropriate experience in the subject area. Possible next steps: A higher level qualifi cation, professional qualifi cation or a supervisory/managerial role in the workplace.


Length of course (weeks): 36 for the HNC and 36 for the HND.
