Brickwork Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork (Evenings)
(CON45442) A new evening part-time City and Guilds course for people who want to learn to lay bricks. The course will teach you basic bricklaying techniques, handling of materials and tools, along with a grounding and overview of the bricklaying industry. You will also study health and safety and we’ll help in your preparation for the workplace. On this course, you’ll build a series of brickwork and blockwork projects, and will complete a theory related portfolio. The course is designed for adults who wish to progress in a career in bricklaying, and DIY enthusiasts who wish to improve their skills. Entry requirements: Entry 3 in English and maths, determined by College assessment or GCSE English and Maths grades A-D. Possible next steps: Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 6
Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork
(CON10170) As an Apprentice or trainee in Bricklaying, you will learn the following: hand tools and their uses, cleaning and maintenance, basic brickwork and blockwork techniques and about the materials that you will use. You will learn how to use portable power tools, how to work safely, the building team and how it works together as a team. You will also learn how to communicate and work effectively with others, as well as learning basic building methods and construction technology. You will get the chance to learn how to quantify materials required for the work you will be expected to do and how to safely move and store materials. In addition you will learn about employment rights and responsibilities. Entry requirements: Entry 3 in English and maths, determined by College assessment or GCSE English and Maths grades A-D. Possible next steps: Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 15
Level 3 Diploma in Brickwork
(CON41094) In addition to what you have learned in levels 1 and 2, as a third year Apprentice you will learn how to maintain and erect complex structural and non-structural brickwork components. The advanced core units include building methods, information and communication in the industry. The course incorporates continuous assessment and an end-of-year theory and practical test. Entry requirements: Successful completion of the level 2 Diploma in Brickwork or equivalent. Selection is also by College assessment and interview. Ideally you should be in employment. Possible next steps: Site management or further education in building studies. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 15
