designed by the legendary British firm Colt, MacKenzie and Allison, opened in 1924. Te club has since hosted the 1933 U.S. Open Championship, as well as the 1939 and 1983 U.S. Amateur Championships.

A TOURNAMENT WITH A TWIST Te Encompass Championship features a unique Pro-Am format where Champions Tour pros partner with amateurs and celebrities on Friday and Saturday for an event-within-the-event competition. “We’ve added a twist,” says Brian Guthrie, Encompass’ marketing

director. “Te pros will also compete in a traditional 54-hole, stroke- play format for the individual title and $1.8 million purse.” He adds that prior to the official competition, running June

21-23, the Encompass Championship will also feature Pro–Am competitions on Wednesday and Tursday. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Chicago-area charities. And according to Irwin, the pros on the Tour also appreciate the

support from Encompass. “We appreciate the sponsorship,” he says. “It’s a great marriage.”
