turn, to break out of a four-way tie and hold off challenges from Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood on the back nine.

Westwood caught McIlroy with a birdie on the par-3 13th but poor chips on both 14 and 15 did him in. Westwood’s closing 69 wasn’t enough.

Mickelson, who shared the lead going into the final round, made a bogey on No. 12, rallied with two birdies, but missed a three- footer for par on 17 and found himself three strokes off the lead.

“A lot of people stayed neutral and Rory geared ahead,” Mickelson said. Woods had praise for McIlroy.

“He’s going out there and is up near the lead and posts a good number,” Woods said. “He’s doing the things he needs to do, and as he said yesterday, he’s feeling very confident about his game. Right now he’s just really played well, and he’s making a ton of putts. That’s a great combo.” ■

CONWAY FARMS GOLF CLUB

Conway Farms Golf Club opened for play on August 3, 1991 and the Tom Fazio design sits on 209 acres in Lake Forest (IL) in the mode of Scottish links golf. The origins of Conway Farms, where the 2013 BMW Championship will take place, trace back to three Lake Forest families who purchased a farm in 1956. The club hosted the 2009 Western Amateur and also has been a champion of the Evans Scholars Foundation, the Western Golf Association’s charitable arm that sends more than 835 caddies to college annually. PGA TOUR member and Conway Farms member Luke Donald is excited about the BMW Championship coming to his home course. “I’m very excited about Conway Farms being the site for the 2013 BMW Championship,” said Donald. “As a longtime member at Conway Farms, I feel like it offers one of the best all- around tests of golf in the Chicago area and will be a course that my fellow pros really enjoy. For a relatively young golf course, Conway Farms has quickly become a prestigious club, and because it provides such a different test every time you play it, is sure to make the BMW Championship a thrilling event for players and fans alike.”
