SANDERSON FARMS CHAMPIONSHIP

Annandale Golf Club (Par 72/7,199 yards) Madison, Mississippi

Scott Stallings after winning the 2012 tournament at Annandale Golf Club.

WHEN SCOTT STALLINGS came to the final hole of last year’s True South Classic (now the Sanderson Farms Championship) he didn’t exactly have the title locked up, but it was pretty much a done deal.

Stallings, who shot 64 on Friday and Saturday to take a one-stroke lead into Sunday, set up his 4-under-par 68 with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 and wound up with a 24-under-par 264 total that beat Jason Bohn by two strokes and Billy Horschel by three.

“He played really well, swung the club well, made the putts when he needed to make the putts, and that’s the way you win,” said Horschel.

STALLINGS WAS SOLID ON SUNDAY

panic and came back with a birdie two holes later when he hit his approach to three feet and knocked in the short putt. He birdied 17 from 12 feet for good measure and then fended off a Bohn birdie on 18 with a par. “Obviously, it’s a special week,” said Stallings. “Anytime you win on the PGA TOUR its special. A lot of things and people went into winning this tournament and I’m very thankful.” The victory was a big step in

Stallings’

comeback. After his rookie season in 2011, in which he won almost $2 million and finished 31st in the FedExCup points standings, in 2012 he suffered from two herniated disks in his back as well as torn cartilage in his ribs. The injuries also took their toll on his attitude. “I hurt my confidence and hurt everything

that came along with it,” Stallings said. “I learned a lot of lessons through that.” ■
