Meldreth Manor and Orchard Manor

During this last month we have shared two very moving occasions at the school. The first involved the parents and extended family of a student who sadly died in the last year. His family came to show their thanks for the good times that he, and they, had at the school. They wanted to recognise with us that he had so enjoyed his short time with us and had made great progress. It was amazing, and that word is used correctly, to see the way that the whole family, young and old, were able to demonstrate their grief in a positive way.

The second occasion was similar. The immediate family of a student who died many years ago came back to the school, as they do most years, to celebrate his birthday. This year would have been his 21st birthday and they wanted to mark this by visiting our Memorial Garden area. They spent time reflecting on his life and indeed on their own, since his death; sharing this time with us and telling us of the way in which they have now moved on but still retain their special place for him. Their daughter was comfortable in talking lovingly of her brother and she let go of a balloon to show her thoughts.

These occasions are moving to us all. We recognise that we have what we call Meldreth and Scope families, who we get to know very well through supporting their children. Both families recalled the effect that Meldreth Manor School and Children’s Home had on their lives.

We share these thoughts with you as we move in to our summer term and plan for our Music Day on Thursday 20th June which will be held on Manor Lawn. This event would have been special to these two families, and we hope that you might join us for this occasion.
