resourcefulness of some of those artists, a new studio for jade carving emerged soon after as a co op.
A few years later, the company New World Jade was lost to the recession and the now experienced jade carvers were out of a job. However, thanks to the resourcefulness of some of those artists, a new studio for jade carving emerged soon after as a co op. For Deborah, seven years and many projects later, another move to a smaller studio near UBC proved to be a positive one.
At that time, she worked mostly on a commission basis, with clients who were known collectors and patrons of the arts. Some of her best early jade sculptures were created there. The last move to date was several years later, to her present home in Vernon B.C. There, any scale of work that she has taken on has been possible, with a large studio fully equipped for hard stone carving and conducting workshops. The covered outdoor area serves well for the larger projects.

Offering jade carving workshops was initiated in the early 90s; participants have come from all over the world to learn techniques for carving nature’s toughest stone. These workshops are ongoing.
