9ÖNGÜR CURRENTLY LIVES IN IZMIR WHICH INCLUDES WHAT SHE TERMS


IMPORTANT “ANTIQUE CITIES,” SUCH AS AFRODISIAS, EFES, AND BERGAMA WITH SIGNIFICANT STONE SCULPTURE AND ARCHITECTURE FROM GREEK AND ROMAN CLASSICAL TIMES.


When viewing the stately ancient buildings where often only the columns and capitals remain, one is struck by the forms which are mirrored in Zöngür’s own sculpture. She often works with strong simple columnar forms, geometric in con struction, with vertical angular forms which are sometimes twisted. She has also  African sculpture.


Zöngür has a BA from Erciyes University, an MSc from Hacettepe, University and a PhD from The Institute of Fine Arts, Izmir, Turkey. She now teaches at Ordu University. She has exhibited widely in Turkey and attended sculpture symposia in Turkey, Germany, Cyprus, Israel, Argentina and Korea.
