Correspondence WHEELCHAIR R UND-UP ALSO IN THE NEWS Commonwealth sense

The organisers of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games bowls competition have been in touch with the BWBA seeking advice and help on the use of bowls wheelchairs in the EAD bowls event (Elite Athletes with a Disability). This illustrates the confidence that bowls authorities have in the BWBA as the recognised governing body for wheelchair bowls in the UK.

IN MEMORY OF ARTHUR REYNOLDS Over the past few years, the BWBA has forged links with bowlers, bowls clubs and county officials in Somerset. Very sadly, one of those West Country supporters, Arthur Reynolds from Wedmore, has died after a long illness. He passed away

peacefully in his local hospice and will be missed by his many friends and fellow bowlers.

…and for the next issue of Nationwide Bowler…

Next time in Nationwide Bowler there will be news of the BWBA’s MatchPlay Singles Championships; the Home Countries Bowls Championship and, with luck, further

news on the fight to keep the BWBA’s HQ at Stoke Mandeville open.

Plus, of course, your own stories which you can send to me at ianblackmore@bwba. org.uk

COACHES ARE ON THE MEND In the last issue there was news of the BWBA’s senior coaches Penny Tyler and Peter Eykyn. Penny has had a successful cataract operation. Peter, however, is still not well enough to attend BWBA events and is still undergoing tests. Those who know him will appreciate how frustrating this is for him. Get well soon, Peter.

NOMADS ON THE MARCH The NOMADS are a group of 100 or so bowlers from the West Country who raise money for good causes. They are led by

President Mary Hutchings. Each year, they run a multi-disabled event at Taunton Deane IBC. This year’s winners were the BWBA’s Tony Lloyd from Cullompton, and Andrew Hodges, from Kingsley. In the separate visually impaired competition, Nancy Cheeseman and Ron Homer from Yeovil went away with the spoils.
