THE new Xcel Bowling Alley is to open in Carmarthen in just a few weeks time. The first class facility, the only

one of its kind in Carmarthenshire, will have 12 bowling lanes. It will also house a cafe, a play and games area, and will cater for birthday parties or special events. The new attraction, developed by Towy Community Church at the

former St

Ivel premises in

Johnstown, will open to the public on Saturday, June 15. It will follow an official opening, a schools day, plus an exclusive evening for Golden Ticket winners. Xcel Bowl will create around 20

jobs and regenerate around half of the vacated property. Profits from the facility will help fund community projects.

A second phase is proposed to be

delivered in future years to incorporate a 500-seat auditorium, a

conference and meeting

venue, debt counselling centre, café/restaurant, catering training, luncheon club provision and office accommodation. Carmarthenshire County Council

has supported the project. Leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “It is

wonderful, particularly during these tough times, to see an exciting project like this being delivered. I know it will be popular with families and young people, not just in and around Carmarthen but throughout the county and further afield.”
