Message from the Pastor Welcome to our quarterly church magazine.

We started the new year with a strong conviction that God has a great plan for Kilsyth as a town and the purpose of the church is to fulfil his plan by being obedient to His voice.

The Old Testament prophet Samuel when he was a young boy in the tabernacle at Shiloh heard God call his name in the night. Three times he heard the Lord calling him but the Bible says: “Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” So Samuel kept running to Eli the priest thinking he was calling for him. Eli realised that it was the Lord calling Samuel and told him what to say. The fourth time God called, Samuel was ready to hear the message and take it to Eli.

What we learn from this portion of Scripture is this:  If the leaders aren’t listening then God will speak to the young. It is my desire to see our young men and women filled with the Holy Spirit and hearing from God. They are not potential future leaders they are current potential leaders. They need to “know the Lord” and know when He is speaking.

 If we hear the Lord speaking we need to wake up and listen to what He has to say. How tempting it is to just turn over and go to sleep and then we miss out on the life changing Word.

 If we hear what God is saying we then need to do what He has asked us to do because it’s only in the doing that the blessing comes. Obedience is all God asks of us.

So let’s not sleep when God is speaking and let’s be ready to do whatever He asks us to do without question. Remember Philip the evangelist in Samaria who was enjoying soaking in the river of revival – God told him to go to the desert road, away from the crowds, away from the healings and miracles and because he listened and obeyed without question the Ethiopian Eunuch came to know Christ and took Christianity back to his country.

Knowing the Word is good but it’s not enough – the Bible tells us to be doers of the Word. I pray that we will all be listening and doing what God calls us to do in order to see God bless and move by His Holy Spirit in our town.

God Bless Pastor Mike Preston
