An essential mineral, Zinc is found in many places including rocks and soil, as well as plants, animals and the air that we breathe. It’s widely abundant and can be indefinitely recycled, and it helps prevent corrosion on steel by forming an electrochemical protection. It reacts with air to create asurface film which is insoluble in rain-water and acts as abarrier to completely prevent moisture and oxygen reaching the steel itself.

Galvanizing is atruly sustainable finish. Not only does it lengthen the lifespan of steel by protecting it against rust and corrosion for anything up to 60 years, but it is energy- efficient throughout its production and whole lifecycle. Zinc’s non-ferrous properties means it can be recycled again and again without any loss of physical or chemical composition. While the galvanizing process uses resources considerately to ensure arelatively low environ- mental burden, and galvanized steel can easily be recycled with steel scrap, or it can be re-galvanized or removed and reused elsewhere.
