INDUSTRYNEWS SANDWELL

Sandwell UK is one of the countries

leading shot peening specialists based in

Towcester, they are set to increase production and precision thanks to anew technical

centre being opened later this month

The technical centre will feature integrated robotic systems and structured light 3D scanning which will incorporate software developed in aco-operative project with the by The Manufacturing Technology Centre (The MTC). Sandwell’s Technical centre will push Sandwell to the forefront of surface engineering innovation.

The project has been made possible through inward investment and external grants which include, the Innovation Enterprise Fund (INV- ENT) provided by Northamptonshire County Council. Software development has been part funded by the Transportation iNet who are supported by the European Research Development Fund (ERDF).

The technical centre will enable Sandwell to continue its innovation and growth in surface engineering allowing them to work with more complex components and feedback detailed information to its customers.

Sandwell’s Technical Director Colin McGrory is very excited by the new development; “The technical centre will help to create ahigher level of automation as well as providing us and our customers with detailed technical feedback.” he explained “This will help improve turn around time and efficiency”

The Government’s offshore gas tax allowances for shallow-water and mature fields enables the UK to foster its exports of British technology and expertise. Britain’s gas strategy boosts investment and production allowing for more costs of machinery and development of high technology supply chains. ForSandwell this could mean greater opportunity to expand into the oil and gas sector and the potential to invest in new shot peening technology at its new technical centre.
