Human Grade and U.S. Made

obbye Cochran Peanut Butter to the Rescue

It was the wasting impact of Addison’s disease on a be- loved family dog that sparked Lincoln Bark.

“My success in nursing my beloved family pet back from a life-threatening illness inspired me to start a human- grade pet treat business,” explains Bobbye. “Sophie, our 2-year-old black standard poodle was diagnosed with Ad- dison's disease as a puppy and stopped eating.

“Our veterinarian told us to give Sophie every treat on the market, and we did. Sophie continued to refuse food, and it was truly heartbreaking to see her body wasting away. Frantic to save her life, my 12-year old daughter and I be- gan researching canine nutrition and experimenting with recipes. After a few rounds of trial and error, we devel- oped a nutritious, human-grade peanut butter treat that Sophie loved. She ate it with gusto, and her health im- proved dramatically.

“We shared the treats with our neighbors’ dogs, and soon we were swamped with requests as to where to buy them. We decided to test our treats at a local pet trade show, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. After a whirl- wind of activity to set up the new business, I launched Lincoln Bark, named after Lincoln Park where our home is located. This year marks our second anniversary, and both Sophie and the company continue to grow stronger every day.”

Chia-tastic

Lincoln Bark’s products are unique, because of the Chia seeds that are added. “We want to improve our pets’ overall health proactively,” continues Bobbye. “Chia seed is a food, not a supplement, and its abundance of omega- 3s, antioxidants, and protein help promote a more holistic approach to pet health and longevity. That's why our tag- line is Lincoln Bark–Powering Your Pup with Chia.”

Bobbye believes all- natural, human-grade pet products are here to stay and still have a lot of room for growth. “We think our treats are the healthiest on the market since we are taking the holistic approach to pet care,” she says. “Once customers understand the unique health benefits our delicious products offer, they always return for more.

“Our ingredients are hu- man grade, organic when

possible, and sourced in the USA. Our treats are also made in the USA.”

A Generous Industry

A lifelong animal lover, Bobbye says she is thrilled that she could turn this pas- sion into a successful busi-

ness. She’s determined, focused— and awed by “the many new friends I have met in the pet industry who have gener- ously shared their knowledge and insights with me.”

Bobbye, too, takes a generous approach, making sure Lincoln Bark participates in fundraising events for shelters across the country.

“We know we can always improve, and we are working on ways to offer more value to the customer via an informative blog, Facebook and Twitter outreach,” she adds.
