3 President’s Message Let’s Spring into Action!

Action Biz Book — you are who this book is for and about. You are what makes this book magic.

You may be a fellow pet professional. If so, you’ll find inspiration, ideas, services, facilities and products to cross promote, use and recommend. Or you’ll find someone you’d like to partner with. Those inside these pages are looking for you and value the same things!

You may be the media. Look closely at the way these pet professionals “show up,” share and give. You’ll find it easy to connect with experts for information and inspiration. Blog about these women; tweet about them. Share about them, because pet parents, like all people, love a good story, and these women have many stories to tell!

You are certainly a pet parent. (Lucky, blessed you!) The love of animals is what binds us all. Those who live with and adore pets and have decided to let their passion be their business as well are a rare breed indeed. This network supports them as they grow, give and connect. It’s a wonder to experience firsthand.

Use this book to meet the players in this industry. Tell them you saw them here. Better yet, meet them and help them – they’re sure to do the same for you.

Blessings,

Shawna Schuh President and Chief Pet Wrangler Women in the Pet Industry Network April 2013

ou, the viewer and reader of this Top Women in the Pet Industry Spring into

I Editor’s note

n gathering the information for the profiles that fill the pages of this issue, I was struck by how many of you are living out

a dream that began with puppy, kitten, horse or hamster love as a child.

You are to be applauded for having, in one way or another, circled back to the pets and animals that unwittingly set you on your career course.

Reading your stories made me think back to my first puppy, Shep and first cat, Fluffy. Unoriginal names or not, they were dear to me. Both proved unsuitable for suburban life and found better homes. Who knows, maybe that’s why I surround myself with critters now. (Childhood wasn’t actually bereft of pets. Eventually there were Daschunds, stray cats that stayed, and a horse.)

Animals bring me joy, and so do words and telling a good story. The women in this Biz Book made the story telling easy. Each story has gems of wisdom and insight. Every one is worth a read.

Besides the wonderful WIPIN members in this book, I’d like to especially thank two WIPIN members for their assistance and gen- erosity of spirit and talent, Cindy Dunston Quirk of Scout & Zoe’s for proofreading, and Jennifer Pulver of Jennifer Pulver Marketing for help on the production end of things. And of course Shawna, for always having my back. And Kobe and Brooke for forcing me to take breaks when on deadline, because they need them, too.
