EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Christine Johnson, Pitchcare’s Training Coordinator, has been with the company for over six years. During this time she has developed a range of specialist courses which have been approved by Lantra, making them the only such courses in the industry to be independently accredited by a National Awarding Body. She has also worked with industry trainers to prepare and deliver industry specific supervisory training for head groundsmen/greenkeepers and their deputies, and courses on Dealing With Difficult People and Situations.
Christine also works with a number of major commercial institutions to provide ongoing training on a range of land-based machinery and equipment, including bespoke courses to bring employees up to date on Health and Safety practices. Clients include BP International, Monteray (the facilities arm of British Telecom), York Racecourse, Shrewsbury School and the States of Guernsey.
The current range of Pitchcare-designed courses includes:
Our public courses are held regularly at Pitchcare HQ at Allscott, just NW of Telford. If you are a landscaper, contractor, local authority or other organisation with a group of six or more staff to be trained, special terms are available.
Stem Injection Treatment for Invasive Species, Lantra accredited
A new course introduced in 2012 and already proving popular.
Japanese Knotweed, once seen as an exotic ornamental plant, has now become a nuisance - so much so that it is an offence to plant or cause it to grow in the wild. Stem Injection has become an increasingly popular, safe and effective way of control for this and other invasive species, such as Himalayan Balsam and Rhododendron
The stem injection system works by delivering a measured dose of concentrate herbicide into the centre of the plant. Treatment is extremely localised, only ever targeting the plants injected. The weed will also absorb the concentrate into its rhizome (root) at a much faster rate than with foliar spraying, providing a quicker resolution to the Japanese Knotweed problem.
