Restless Minds topic: Violence in America

Is the United States a violent nation? The Restless Minds discussion group will

conclude its 2012-13 season by tackling that and related questions when it meets on Tuesday, May 14. The discussion will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Sewing Room of Oakwood’s Arts and Crafts Center. Rates of incarceration in the U.S. are the

highest in the world. What does this statistic mean?

Are more people jailed because we are

inherently more violent and lawless as a people or because we have less tolerance

for criminality than other developed nations? Discussion

leader Bill Gates also

anticipates the group will explore the role of guns in the culture of violence so often associated with America. Restless Minds is a discussion group

open to all people with inquisitive, open minds. There are no dues or sign-up requirements. Just show up and participate. The group will not meet in June, July resume on Tuesday,

or August but will September 10. 
