Cheers Singles tribute to Jo Partello

Ron Leimer, Publicity Cheers Singles birthday party on March

17 included a tribute to one of our members who has been so active and productive in our club for several years. Jo helped, planned, led and directed in so many ways during her years with Cheers that I don’t think we realized how much she actually did until she recently moved back to California this April. Ginny Marr hosted a tribute in her honor as Jo was unable to attend this particular day but by speaker phones to her and back to the Navajo Room we expressed our gratitude for all she’s done for our organization over the years. Several members spoke at the podium to share their feelings with Jo and yes, a

Periodically, we have openings

within the group. Here’s how the Movie Club works:

every month, the host couple selects a movie for all to go see on their own some time during that month. Everyone meets

few tears were shed as we remembered her involvement, her friendship and her guidance over the years. Cards were written to her with messages of gratitude for her leadership and an album of past photos and articles involving Jo were put together by Jan Koehler and Joe Sharpless. Thanks to all who contributed to the album; it was presented to Jo after the party and I’m sure she knows now how much she will be missed!! Jo has sold her home in Oakwood now and has relocated in California to be near her family. Jo’s family at Cheers wish her the very best in her new home in the Golden State; expect to see some of us when it’s 115 in Arizona!!

Dick Negaard won 1st place in the March Camera Club competition with this image of the Split Rock lighthouse along Lake Superior’s shoreline at dawn.

Wayne Divoky This month’s featured photograph was

entered by Dick Negaard in the March club competition. He won fi rst place in the Open category with this image.

Last September, Dick was in northern

Minnesota and captured this image of the Split Rock Lighthouse at dawn along Lake Superior’s shoreline. His Canon 7D DSLR was mounted on a tripod and equipped with a Canon 18 – 200mm zoom lens. He set his camera to an ISO of 100 and a lens opening of f16. Because the scene had a very large range of light from the bright sky to the very dark cliffs, Dick decided to expose for the sky and do his post processing work to bring in the dark areas. His major problem was the amount of noise present in the shadows when he lightened them. He decided to keep the cliffs relatively dark so the viewer’s eye would be drawn to the lighthouse. By keeping the rock outcropping on the right side of the image, he was able to achieve balance in his photograph. The end result was a very good photograph. Congratulations Dick. For the second year, the Sun Lakes

Camera Club will continue meeting during the summer months. From May through September the club will meet informally on the fi rst Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Clubhouse. No competitions will be held during the summer but interesting topics will be explored at meetings. The fi rst meeting’s subject was

not determined in time for the Splash deadline. Club members will get an email notice about the meeting. In addition, anyone can check the meeting plans at the club’s website. Next fall the Sun Lakes Camera

Club will again conduct a Beginner Photography 101 evening class. The class will start November 5. There will be 10 two-hour lessons.
