Great girls getaway

Linda Gruver We’ve just returned from our latest Great

Girls Getaway Cruise, two weeks in sizzling South America. Our group arrived in Argentina two days

prior to the cruise and toured the exciting city of Buenos Aires. Along with seeing the highlights of the city we enjoyed a breathtaking tango show with dinner one evening and one of Argentina’s renowned steak dinners the next, an amazing three hour experience! The timing of our visit to Argentina was fantastic as we were able to tour the city very easily. The week following our visit, the churches we had toured were crowded with those celebrating the election of the new Argentinean pope. Ship life was enjoyed onboard the

Celebrity Infi nity as we cruised to visit the ports of Montevideo and Punta Del Este, Uruguay, Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia, Argentina, Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt,

Chile, as well as cruising through the Strait of Magellan. We were fortunate when cruising around Cape Horn as we had beautiful sunshine and calm waters and the sun stayed with us as we sailed the gorgeous coastal fjords of Chile on our way to our disembarkation port of Valparaiso, Chile. Two days were then spent touring Santiago, Chile prior to fl ying home from another incredible journey. The Great Girls will cruise again, our

12th annual, through the Panama Canal this October 7, 2013. Cruisers on the Panama Canal itinerary are coming from all over the United States. It is a great opportunity to meet and enjoy new friends or connect with old ones. There are limited staterooms remaining and we would love for you to join us and be part of our next experience!! if you have any questions 480-883-9479. 

Amazara Quest Cruise Paula and Wade Cunkelman of Cruise

Planners recently sailed from Miami to

Seville, Spain on the delightful Azamara Quest. This ship and her sister The Journey are smaller and better staffed than most of the popular new ships. These two ships were part of the original Renaissance fl eet and have a capacity of approximately 690 passengers. They are now owned by Royal Caribbean. The experience on this ship size with a

staff ratio of 2:1 brought back the memories of cruising many years ago and enjoying the ship and the staff. The boarding was pleasant with no

crowds. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and assisted to our cabin. The ship has 10 decks but only Decks 3 through 10 are for the public. On the top deck was a lounge that was

perfect for afternoon tea. The lounge is called the Looking Glass, surrounded with glass with the best views of the ocean. A harpist played for the tea which completed the elegant activity. The entertainers were outstanding and

turned the Cabaret Lounge into a grand theatre. This is not the type of theatre you will fi nd on the new mega-ships; it was an intimate theatre that allowed you to see the eyes and expressions of the performers. Everyone

soon became family with

each other and the staff. Even the captain would stop and have coffee with you in the morning at the Mosaic Café. He was very social and his staff all seemed to enjoy their jobs.

The Azamara cruises are designed to

spend more time in the ports so people can experience the regions of the world they are

cruising. It was noticeable that the majority of the

guests were experienced travelers. Many are loyal Azamara passengers from all over the world. They were a refi ned, mature group that helped give the ship an informal but classy feel. This cruise line, Azamara, is one for the

people that say “cruising isn’t what it used to be.” 
