Polytechnic and went to work as an apprentice from the age of 17. He began at the lowest level on the ship on which he served, doing everything needed for day-to-day operations. Through hard work and determination, he went on to carve out a career for himself in the shipping industry. After working as a seafarer, Mr Lee joined Sembawang Shipyard where he eventually became the shipyard’s dockmaster. In 1976, he became one of the first Singaporeans to work for a German multinational offshore company,
efficient and reliable service solutions. Founded on what the company describes as “a relentless commitment to quality and value,” Mr Lee and his colleagues have built up a well-respected track record and a strong network of clients that include oil majors and national oil companies.
Offshore Supply Association, which was then one of the largest global operators of support vessels (OSVs) for the oil and gas industry.
In 1992, he decided to strike out on his own, and founded EMAS Offshore Ship Management Company, working from his basement, using all of the experience he had gained from working in the marine, shipbuilding and offshore chartering business for 25 years.
EMAS acquired its first OSV in 1999 and,
under Mr Lee’s stewardship, the company has been transformed from a local subcontractor to a global player, employing more than 5,000 people, with offices in 16 locations across five continents spanning Africa, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. Mr Lee took EMAS public with the Singapore stock exchange listing Holdings Limited in 2003
of Ezra and listed its
construction and production division on the Oslo stock exchange in 2007. In 2005 he led the establishment and development of two shipyards in Vietnam, and with their growing success, the business was listed as TRIYARDS Holdings Limited on the Singapore Exchange in 2012. In 2011, EMAS undertook the strategic of Aker Marine
acquisition Holdings and Contractors
(AMC), forming the subsea construction and installation division, EMAS AMC. Ezra
together with its
subsidiaries together make up what is now one of the world’s leading offshore contractors and providers of integrated offshore solutions. Unlike many offshore
support companies,
EMAS offers solutions across a broad spectrum of the support supply chain, over the entire lifecycle of an oilfield. The wide range of services that Ezra offers includes subsea construction and maintenance, drilling support, towing and mooring, pipe and cable operations, high speed cargo and crew transportation. Under the EMAS branding,

Through the combined efforts of its four business divisions – subsea services, offshore support services, production (through EOC Limited) and marine services – the company has also consistently created value for clients and stakeholders. Today, EMAS occupies
a leading position in
support and marine services, as well as in the technically-challenging subsea engineering and construction industry.
In January of 2013 Mr Lee retired as Chairman of EMAS, but remains on the Board of Directors.
