Dartmoor, the South Hams and the South West Coastal Path – ideal for those who like ‘big walks’ and picnics perched on top of hills

Whatever the weather, you will be covered

FOR most of us, budgets remain tight, but we don’t need to travel very far to seek enjoyment. Look what’s on our doorstep - Dartmoor, the South Hams and the South West Coastal Path - ideal for those who like ‘big walks’ and picnics perched on top of hills, or alternatively smaller ventures interlinked with cafés and pubs! Either way Trailventure, Ashburton have a great selection of outdoor gear for the whole family, no matter what the weather! Trailventure opened in 1998 and their aim has always been to provide the help, advice and service so often missing in the larger chain stores. Whether it is boots and waterproofs to walk the dog, or something a bit more high-tech for the adventures further afield, they are quite happy to help and share their experience. MOORLAND Guides is a newly created small group of qualified guides who, for many years, have been work- ing with the Dartmoor National Park Authority in providing and leading guided walks and also supporting the educa- tional programme by guiding school groups from both this country and abroad. In 2012 the guides were made redundant by the National Park so formed a small co-operative themselves called

“Moorland Guides”. This gives a great oppor- tunity for the guides to look at the guided walk programme and take it forward as a private enti- ty. They will also take on the international student guiding as well as pro- viding voluntary guides to the National Park to help with their retained responsibility of leading guided walks and educa- tional visits for UK schools, which is what they have done for years.
