Kingsbridge

Enterprising people from the Kingsbridge in Bloom committee have spotted potential, making a centrepiece for the things of nature out of the debris from our recent industrial past

It’s all in the brewing

SOMETHING else that Kings- bridge is missing (apart from a cathedral – see page 10), is a rail- way station.

It had one once, oh yes, back in the day and it was connected to the Penzance–Paddington main line at South Brent by the Primrose Line. Such a pretty name.

All gone now, of course. Gone the way of groats and farthings and Wagon Wheels that were the size of, well, wagon wheels. But the echoes remain. Here and

there around Kingsbridge you can happen on a few remaining relics of the great days of steam. And, in just the last few years, those enter- prising people from the Kingsbridge in Bloom committee have spotted potential here, mak- ing a centrepiece for the things of nature out of the debris from our recent industrial past.

Why aren’t there more people like that in the Government? Or, better still, advising the United Nations? Write to your MP today.

Having a daily take- away selection all fresh- ly made means if you want a packed lunch for the beach or walks, etc they can take your orders in advance. You will find their Deli counter has a won- derful selection of cheese, meats, pies and dips and they can make a deli board for that spe- cial lunch or dinner. The Red Earth Deli would like to thank everyone for their sup- port throughout the year.

Locally sourced food & ales served alongside the beautiful Kingsbridge Estuary

AS we now look for- ward to longer days and drier, warmer weather (well we can but hope!), you can be assured that Quercus has an ale to suit your palate. Shingle Bay, their signature ale, really comes into its own over the next sev- eral months with its citrus aromas and its refreshing, revitalising finish. If you’re in the mood for something

deeper and more seri- ous, then Prospect or Harry’s will do the trick.

If you would like to experience first hand how their wonderful ales come to be, call them to arrange a group tour of the brewery with their in- house raconteur and one of their brewers, Graham Phillips. Graham will lead you through the process

with lots of anecdotes - Did you know that King Charles V, the Holy Emperor, ordered a beer mug with 4 han- dles so he would always have a handle within easy reach? - ah the virtues of simplicity! Unit 2M, South

www.quercusdevonales.com Perfect Pizza

THIS year will see some fundamental changes at The Crabshell Inn with the addition of their new Pizza kitchen and menu along with some struc- tural changes. They are adding a new dining room to their ground floor with a roof terrace above to make the most of the view to the south and west of the estuary. They are also changing the location of the stairs to the first floor so as to open up the ground floor with more light and a better view of the estuary from the bar area. The Pizzas have been very well received and The Crabshell Inn are proud that their long peri- od of research into the perfect pizza has paid off. The 13" pizzas are made with a sourdough crust and the finest ingredients have been sourced to deliver a truly gourmet pizza experience. Telephone 01548 852345 or see their website.
