Gardening Days Out

Taking place over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, the fair includes exhibitions, demonstrations and sale of traditional and contemporary crafts and artwork as well as plants, garden furniture, ornaments and garden supplies. Free parking is available, as well as children’s entertainment, a picnic area and facilities for disabled visitors. A wide variety of refreshments will also be available throughout the three days.

The fair opens at 10am and closes at 6pm each day. Because of the wildlife on the estate, dogs must be on a lead and under control. For further information contact Kati Zombory- Moldovan, Craft Carnival Tel: 01202 842407 or visit www.craftcarnival.co.uk

Taurus Crafts: Fire up your children’s craft enthusiasm

If you are keen to fire up your children’s interest in the crafts then Taurus Crafts is an arts and crafts visitor centre which might appeal to them.

Taurus Crafts is a vibrant visitor centre based near Lydney in the Forest of Dean. Established in 1995 it is a home to local crafts, food, gifts and art exhibitions and provides visitors a chance to meet the makers in their craft units and shop for distinctive gifts from the artisan businesses.

A varied event programme complements the activities on site including creative children’s drop-in workshops throughout school holidays and monthly (second Saturday of the month) food markets featuring local food and drink.

Set up by Dirk and Isa Rohwedder, of the Camphill Village Trust, the aim was to use the visitor centre to offer work experience, training and employment to people with special needs.

The first thing you will see is the massive Bull by Phil Bews. There is always an exhibition on the walls of the cafe. At any one time, someone is likely to be making in their workshops. The centre is open open seven days a week from 10am.

Take a picnic dining

My Picnic Days feel a picnic can be a day out in its own right or it can enhance another outing. As a family, they love picnics. There is something special about opening a picnic basket full of delicious food, in a beautiful location, shared with good company. There are so many fantastic places in the south west whether it’s at the coast, woodland or hills and of course one of the best spots may be close to home – in your garden!

A traditional picnic basket captures the magic of the picnic, the opening of the lid as all the lovely food is shared. My Picnic Days have put together a collection of both modern and vintage picnic baskets for you to enjoy. The baskets have china plates, glasses and cutlery. Many of the modern baskets also have an integrated cool bag to keep food.
