Eggs-travagant Easter days out!


The Easter weekend, 29th March to 1st April, means four days off to fill, so here are some ‘eggs-tra’ special events to get you and your family and friends, adults and children, out and about.


There’s also a lot going on throughout the Easter school holidays so we’ve included some events either side of the Easter weekend.


As with any event, do check details before setting out. Happy Easter!


Dunster Castle Express, West Somerset Railway


How better to visit magnificent Dunster Castle than by a leisurely ride through the West Somerset countryside, hauled by a vintage steam engine? Arrive in style, at a pace that reflects the castle in its early 20th century heyday, with a special coach connection from Dunster station to the castle entrance. The Dunster Castle Express runs on Saturday 9th and Wednesday 20th March and then every Saturday and Wednesday from Saturday 30th March to Saturday 2nd November inclusive.

RHS Garden Rosemoor, Great Torrington, Devon, EX38 8PH


Under the theme for the Easter Holidays of ‘The Colours of the Rainbow’, RHS Rosemoor has a whole package of events for families. The Easter Trail runs from 29th March to 14th April.


Invigorate your family’s body and mind by following the clues through the garden. Solve the puzzle and collect your reward from the front entrance kiosk on your way out!


Other family events at Rosemoor include:


Rainbow Kites Workshop: 3rd April 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 4pm. Craft workshop for families. “Let’s go fly a Kite.”but first come and using a multitude of clean colourful waste, with Mrs. Recycle as she shows how to make your own kite for flying.”


The Colours of the Rainbow Workshop: 8th April - 11am 12noon, 2pm or 3pm. Craft workshop for families. Learn how colour is made in different ways using light and paints. Get funky with foam colour tiles to make your own mosaic rainbow. Please wear old clothes.


Rainbow Knitting Sessions: 11th April and 12th April - 11am, 12 noon, 2pm or 3pm. Craft workshop for families. Learn to knit and / or crochet with local knitting superstars Alison and Ann Murray. Already mastered the basics?


Then learn some new techniques and ways to knit using a rainbow of colours. All materials provided. Under 8’s welcome but each must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The garden is open every day except for Christmas Day. April – September: Mon –Sun: 10am – 6pm. Last admission is one hour before closing.


Craft and Garden Fair, Somerley, Ringwood, Hampshire. Saturday 30th March to Monday 1st April


Children’s entertainment features as part of the celebrated Craft and Garden fair which takes place in the sumptuous surroundings of Somerley near Ringwood in Hampshire.
