6th March Illustrated Talk by Visiting Cuban Artists


Double Elephant Print Workshop, Thornlea, Drama Department, Exeter University, New North Road 6pm Luis Lara & Yamilys Jorge, directors of Cuba’s premier printmaking studio will talk about the work and history of the Taller Experimental de Grafica. Established in Havana in 1962 by local artists with the support of the then Minister of Industry, Che Guevara, the studio has played a pivotal role in the


development of modern printmaking in Cuba, supporting local artists and writers, and increasingly reaching out internationally. In spite of the US-led economic blockade of Cuba and shortages of all materials, the workshop has produced many beautiful, high quality editions in lithography, collagraphy, woodcut, etching and other print processes.
