Exhibition of Life Drawings Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April, Clearbrook Village Hall 10am - 5pm
Discovered in an attic and not seen for a hundred years, this remarkable collection of drawings by Eleanor Grace Scarborough is returning once again to Devon, to be exhibited at Clearbrook Village hall.
Loosely bundled in old paper, these drawings came to light in an auction seven years ago. Heaped in a corner and in danger of being thumbed through to destruction and separated forever, these beautiful drawings have survived to be treasured again. Tracing their history has revealed that Eleanor Grace Scarborough was born in 1881 in Crouch End, London and was amongst some of the first women to exhibit at the Royal Academy
in 1905 and 1917. Little else is known about the artist beyond the fact she became profoundly deaf by the age of thirty and died in obscurity in 1968 in Ditchling, Surrey.
These early 20th century life drawings have been lovingly restored and framed and will be displayed to the public to raise money for wounded soldiers.
Entry £1 per adult. Teas and cakes available all day and all proceeds will go to Walking With the Wounded.
Walking with
the Wounded, which was set up on 2010, aims to re- educate and retrain our wounded and injured soldiers and return them to the work place. Many young men and women return home to face a very different future to the one they had planned, with challenges they
imagined. The funds raised by Walking with the Wounded finance new qualifications, courses and further education for those who are seriously injured enabling them to have a secure and stable future.
